Playa de Troya: what to expect before you go

Playa de Troya is the central beach of Playa de las Américas, in the municipality of Adeje, on the sheltered south-west coast of Tenerife. It is a compact stretch of golden sand with a promenade behind it, calm water most days, lifeguards in season and everything within walking distance. That combination is why it is a default choice for families and first-time visitors, and why it is busy for most of the day in high season.

Is it worth going today?

The south-west coast is the driest and least windy part of Tenerife, so Troya is usable on far more days than the north or the south-east. What changes day to day is the afternoon breeze and the swell: a westerly or southerly swell can put chop and a shore break onto an otherwise gentle beach. Check the current readings and the flag before swimming.

Sea and wind

Water is generally calm and shallow near the shore, with the Atlantic staying between roughly 19 °C in late winter and 24 °C in late summer. Wind normally picks up after midday and drops again in the evening, which is why mornings are the most comfortable time on the sand.

Getting there and parking

Troya sits directly on the Las Américas promenade, walkable from most hotels in the resort and served by local buses. Street parking around the beach is limited and busy; the underground and open car parks a couple of streets back are the realistic option in the middle of the day.

Facilities

Sun loungers and parasols for hire, showers, toilets, accessible access, lifeguards in season, and a continuous line of bars and restaurants along the promenade. The beach is fully serviced rather than wild.

Nearby alternatives

If Troya is too crowded, the same promenade continues to further beaches in both directions, and Las Vistas in Los Cristianos is a short drive south with a wider, more sheltered bay.
