Candelaria webcam: live view of the seafront and basilica

Candelaria is the religious capital of the Canary Islands, home to the Basilica of Our Lady of Candelaria and the nine bronze Guanche kings that line the square facing the ocean. The camera covers that seafront, where the Atlantic arrives with little shelter, so it is a good live read on swell and on how busy the town is.

What you can see

The plaza in front of the basilica, the Guanche statues along the sea wall, and the state of the ocean behind them. On days with north-east swell the waves break hard against the promenade, which is spectacular from a distance and a genuine hazard close to the edge.

Visiting Candelaria

The town is on the east coast, about 20 minutes south of Santa Cruz by motorway, and is easy to reach by bus. Beyond the basilica there are dark-sand beaches, a small old quarter and a seafront lined with cafés. It is busiest around religious festivities in February and August.

Weather on this coast

The east coast sits between the cloudy north and the dry south, so it often gets sun when the north is overcast. Wind here comes from the north-east and the sea is frequently rough enough for red flags on the town beaches.

Live conditions

The camera image itself is served by its original provider, so availability depends on them. Octabia records when the stream was last checked and shows that check time instead of claiming a camera is live when it may not be.
