Tenerife weather today, zone by zone

The weather in Tenerife depends far more on where you stand than on the date. The trade wind piles cloud against the northern slopes, the south stays dry in its rain shadow, and above roughly 1,500 metres you are normally over the cloud entirely. These pages help you convert that into a decision: which coast, which beach and whether it is worth driving up.

What changes during the day

Northern cloud often builds in the morning and breaks in the afternoon, while the south-east wind strengthens around midday and eases in the evening. Temperature moves very little; wind and cloud are what decide whether a plan works.

Frequently asked questions

Why is it raining in the north and sunny in the south?

The north-east trade wind hits the mountains and drops its moisture on the northern slopes, leaving the south in a rain shadow.

What is the weather like on Teide?

Usually above the cloud, much colder than the coast, and windy. Snow is common between December and March.
