Tenerife viewpoints: sunset above the cloud sea
The best viewpoints in Tenerife are on the mountain roads, not on the coast, because that is where you climb above the trade-wind cloud. The reward is a white sheet of cloud filling the valleys with Teide standing over it, and it only appears when the cloud sits low and the air above is clear. Timing matters as much as location: the last hour of daylight is what people drive up for.
What makes a good evening
Low cloud stacked against the north, clean air above it and no thick Saharan haze. Arrive around 45 minutes before sunset for parking and the whole golden hour, and take a warm layer: it is far colder up there than on the beach.
